DemoReelRule:  사물은 모션그래픽에서 정지상태이거나 운동상태이거나 둘중 하나로 구별될 수 있다. 정지상태는 이 사물이  움직임에서 정지상태로 나아간다. 모션그래픽에서는 보이는 모든것이 움직이는 중이어야 한다. 


Decision: 나는 정지 - 움직임 -정지 모션을 사용했다. 

Result: 영상이 중간에 끊기는 느낌이 든다. 

Next Step: 모든 편집포인트에서 사물을 운동중 상태로 바꾼다.

Art Basel Rule:복잡하면서도 우아할 수 있다.

Decision: Stagger 와 Duplicator 를 사용해서 복잡한 형태를 만들었다 지만 모션자체는 부드럽게 유지했다. 

Result: 복잡한 제너레이티브 아트 같으면서도 우아함이 유지됨.

Next Step: 지금 이것과 시각적으로 연결되는 다른 OOH 비주얼 개발.

Demo Reel    Decision: I didn’t consider speed graph matching of each scene. 

Result: The movie look like a writing with a bad transition. It doesn’t have enough continouity. 

Insight: In motion design, match cuts don’t have to rely on contextual continuity.
You can connect scene 1 and scene 2 by matching the speed of motion between them.

Next Step: Fix the demo reel with the newly gained knowledge.

Cadillac Decision: I animated a camera in C4D. and rendered just as much as I needed. 

Result: I don’t have enough material when I changed the music. I know this is unusual situaltion. But it’s worth to remember that the render might not work with the current music. 

Insight: It’s better to render extra scene maybe 10 - 15 percent more. If I need 240 frames, I can render out 264 frames. Just in case. However, If I maticulusly plan the shots beforehand, I don’t have to go through this. 

Next step: Take preproduction seriously!!!! Plan ahead. and render extra frames even if it takes more time.

CadillacDecision: applied an adjustment layer onto the main composition before color correcting each scene. 

Result: Entire video is not coheceive anymore. because each scene has unique lighting setting and environment. If you apply a some sort of color correction onto these diffferent scene, it will look very unbalanced at the end. 

Insight: Each scene need to be treated saperately. 

Next step: Apply adjustment layer to each scene. Then go back to main comp. and apply magic bullet to the main comp.

InfographicDecision: same data. Make it veritcally oriented. 

Result: Looks like there are a huge change. 

Decision2: Same data. Make it flatter. 

Result: Looks like there is not much change. 

Observation: Line chart can be read differently depends on how you set the x and y dimention. You can manipulate the impression of the data. 

Next step: Find out what aspect ratio of a chart communicate fare data impression.

Art BaselDecision: Chose the art direction not because it align with the brands identity and what it stands for, but because I felt like it. 

Result: lost direction. I don’t know what I am making. I feel like I am just bullshiting. I am justyfing. not seducing. I am explaining.  

Insight: But is purely objective branding possible? If I can’t say something through design, why not just use AI? 

Next step: ... Do more research I guess? WTH

NudgeSituation: 

A client came up with a branding direction before we even met. They like the design and do not want to change it. A client created a custom logotype. A character’s x height in the logotype doesn’t align with the other characters. We don’t want to offend them but we need to change the logotype. 


Decision: Our team is going to prepare 6 - 10 typography options. We will offer them some good type choices. If they refuse, we will ask them to align the x height and legibility issue with the letter “U”. 


Result: N/A yet.

PortfolioToday, I discover that I still think like a fine artist. I don’t think my way of using video as medium is communicating what I want to communicate. Also, I discover that my work is good when the video is short. around 5 seconds.


Next step: I need to practice thinkink like a videographer. Think things in story.

Demo - ReelAction: When connecting Shot A and Shot B, I started the movement in Shot B at the end of Shot A. 

Result: There were unnessasary gitteryness in video.

Insight: When Shot A occupies movement 0% to 50%, cut the Shot B and Shot B does 50% to 0% 

Next Step: I need a deep research on speed and value graph.

Result: shape grid with random movement on position and scale

Insight: In Cavalry, you can connect everything to everything.
